Short answer: for most HDB and BTO bedrooms, laminate is the low-maintenance all-rounder (from $496 nett for 2 doors), nyatoh plywood is the most affordable real-wood look (from $480 nett for 2 doors), and veneer plywood is the designer choice with more wood patterns (from $580 nett for 2 doors). All three are solid core, custom-made to your opening and installed on your existing frame. Here is how they compare on cost, durability and care, so you can pick the right bedroom door for each room.
Laminate vs Nyatoh vs Veneer Bedroom Door Prices (2026)
Our bedroom doors are sold in packages of 2 to 5 doors. Prices are nett (no GST) and include site measurement, delivery, installation, disposal of your old doors, stainless steel hinges, a lock and a door stopper.
| Door type (solid core) | 2 doors | 3 doors | 4 doors | 5 doors |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nyatoh plywood | $480 | $720 | $960 | $1,200 |
| Laminate, round lock | $496 | $744 | $992 | $1,240 |
| Laminate, lever lock | $516 | $774 | $1,032 | $1,290 |
| Veneer plywood | $580 | $870 | $1,160 | $1,450 |
That works out to about $240 per door for nyatoh, $248 for laminate ($258 with a lever lock) and $290 for veneer. Prices are for standard sizes. A width above 36″ (up to 38″) or a height above 84″ (up to 86″) adds $50 per door, and the final price is confirmed at site measurement. Door frames are not included; painting your existing frames is an optional add-on at $50 per frame ($60 for a frame with a louvre at the top).
On a tighter budget? Our classic HDF doors start from $375 nett for 2 hollow core doors, but they go up to only 33″ wide, so they do not fit most BTO bedrooms.
What Is the Difference Between the Three?
All three doors share the same solid core plywood body. Our solid core is wood-jointed, not honeycomb, which gives better privacy and sound insulation than a hollow door. The difference is the surface:
- Laminate: a 1 mm high pressure laminate (HPL) sheet pressed onto plywood in our factory, with matching ABS trim on every edge. There are 97 designs: solid colours, marble looks, wood grains and the JH series with an anti-bacterial surface.
- Nyatoh plywood: a genuine nyatoh timber sheet on a plywood base, varnished to show the natural reddish-brown grain. You choose from 7 varnish tones, from natural to almost black.
- Veneer plywood: recon wood veneer pressed onto plywood. Our catalogue has 48 veneer designs, more choice than nyatoh, which is why interior designers often propose it.

Durability: Which Bedroom Door Lasts Best?
Because the core is the same, how long a door keeps looking good comes down to its surface and how the room is used.
- Laminate is the toughest surface for daily wear. HPL resists scratches, heat and water far better than paint or a thin wood veneer, so it suits children’s rooms, homes with pets and doors that get knocked by furniture. The ABS edges also handle Singapore’s humidity well.
- Nyatoh and veneer are real wood. A real wood face is softer than HPL and shows light scratches more easily, but small marks can often be lightly sanded and touched up (Greenply). A deep gouge in laminate, on the other hand, usually means replacing the door.
- Keep nyatoh varnished, not painted. Some homeowners ask for a white-painted nyatoh door. We don’t recommend it, because paint does not hold up as well over the long run on a nyatoh surface.
All three come with our 12-month warranty on workmanship and manufacturing defects (hardware such as locks and hinges has 3 months’ goodwill cover). Normal wear and tear, impact and water damage are not covered.
Care and Maintenance
Laminate is the easiest to live with: wipe it with a damp cloth and it never needs repainting or revarnishing. For nyatoh and veneer, wipe spills quickly and avoid soaking the door or using strong chemicals on the varnish. If you like a natural look but dread upkeep, a wood-grain laminate gives you the timber look with laminate care.

How to Choose the Right Door for Each Room
- Measure your doorway first. Older HDB flats usually have 33″ wide bedroom doors, BTO flats usually 36″, and some newer BTOs 38″. Nyatoh, veneer and laminate doors are custom-made up to 39″ wide, 89″ high and 42 mm thick, so they suit HDB, BTO, condo and landed homes.
- Kids, pets or a busy household? Choose laminate bedroom doors. The JH series adds anti-bacterial protection.
- Want real timber at the lowest price? Choose nyatoh plywood doors. They suit Country and Industrial themes, and you can add a stainless steel inlay, groove lines, beading or a glass panel at extra cost.
- Working with an interior designer or matching wood furniture? Choose veneer plywood doors for the widest range of wood patterns. Stainless steel inlay and glass panels are possible here too, at extra cost.
- Check colours in person. Grain and colour can look different on screen, so we bring physical samples to your site measurement.

How Ordering and Installation Work
Every order starts with a site measurement by our team, because door openings are not fully standard. You choose your design from samples on the day, pay the deposit, and we make the doors in our Woodlands factory. Bedroom doors take 14–21 working days from measurement and deposit. On installation day, fitting 4 bedroom doors takes around 4 to 5 hours, and we take your old doors away. The new doors go onto your existing frame: HDB bedroom doors are about 35–36 mm thick and the metal frame rebate is about 37–38 mm, so new doors fit like the old ones. Book a slot through our site measurement form.
Changing your entrance too? Our HDB main door price guide covers laminate, nyatoh and veneer main doors, including ½-hour fire-rated options.
Bedroom Door FAQs
Which bedroom door is the cheapest?
Among solid core wood-look doors, nyatoh plywood is the lowest at $480 nett for 2 doors. Hollow core classic doors start at $375 nett for 2, but they only go up to 33″ wide, so they are not suitable for most BTO flats.
Is a laminate door better than a veneer door?
Laminate is more scratch, heat and water resistant and needs almost no upkeep. Veneer is real wood with a more natural, designer look, and small marks can often be touched up. Choose laminate for busy rooms and veneer for the look.
Will a new door fit my existing HDB door frame?
In most cases, yes. We install the new door onto your existing frame and confirm the fit at site measurement. If a frame is damaged, a new frame is quoted separately.
Can I paint a nyatoh plywood door white?
We don’t recommend it, as paint does not hold up as well over time on a nyatoh surface. For a white door, consider a solid-colour laminate or a painted classic door.
How long does it take to replace bedroom doors?
Bedroom doors take 14–21 working days from site measurement and deposit. Installing 4 doors takes around 4 to 5 hours on the day.
Do you re-laminate old doors?
No. We supply and install brand-new laminate doors instead, because a new surface on an old, worn or swollen door does not fix the core underneath.
